Researcher-Practitioner Partnerships in Education: Challenges and Opportunities – In the United States, interest has grown in partnerships between education researchers and practitioners. The speaker will provide examples of these partnerships, their work, and their contributions to the broader landscape of education research.
Ruth Curran Neild is Deputy Director for Policy and Research, Delegated Duties of the Director, Institute of Education Sciences (IES), U.S. Department of Education. IES is the independent and non-partisan statistics, research, and evaluation arm of the Department. Its work includes fielding national and international assessments of student achievement, providing grants for rigorous research on interventions to improve education outcomes, conducting evaluations of Federal programs and policies in education, and providing support for use of research and data through evidence syntheses and technical support for education personnel. Before joining IES in 2011, Ruth was a Research Scientist at the Center for Social Organization of Schools at Johns Hopkins University and a member of the standing faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She earned a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania.
