Leveraging the science of motivation to optimise the return to school

Peps McCrea & Caroline Spalding

What is motivation? What is it not? How does it work? And how might teachers and leaders harness it to support pupils on their return to school? This session pulls together the best available evidence from behavioural economics, evolutionary psychology and motivation science in an attempt to answer these questions and more. You will leave this session with a greater understanding of motivation for learning, a simple 6-step framework that you can apply to your own context to motivate your learners on their return to school and beyond, and some examples of what this might look like in practice.
