STEAM…ing ahead: interdisciplinary spaces for action, interaction and contestation.

STEAM is an umbrella term, pointing to the pedagogical opportunities arising from the addition of the arts to STEM subjects. While it is beginning to spread widely in the realm of practice, there is no clarity about the positioning of such pedagogies within the curriculum and the specific educational purposes that they might serve. Building on a recently conducted review of both literature and practice, which took place over the course of two years, this session looks at the key features of STEAM; stimulates participants to share assumptions about how and if it may work in classrooms, and invites practitioners to set out key questions for a shared research agenda taking forward STEAM in Scotland
