Tom Bennett

Tom Bennett has been teaching in the East End of London for thirteen years. Currently he is the  founder of researchED, a grass-roots, teacher-led project that aims to make teachers research-literate and pseudo-science proof. Since 2013 researchED has grown from a tweet to an international conference movement that so far has spanned three continents and six countries.

In 2009 he was made a Teacher Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University. From 2008-2016 he wrote a weekly column for the TES and TES online, and is the author of four books on teacher-training, behaviour management and educational research. In 2015 he was long listed for the GEMS Global Teacher Prize, and in that year was listed as one of the Huffington Post's 'Top Ten Global Educational Bloggers'

He recently chaired the Behaviour Management Group for the UK Department of Education(DfE) and is currently their Independent Behaviour Advisor. He coaches teachers and schools internationally in all aspects of behaviour management and research integration.

In his previous life he ran night clubs in London's Soho, which provided an obvious training ground in classroom management and pastoral care.

Hélène Galdin-O'Shea

Hélène Galdin-O’Shea was an English and Media teacher for 25 years, until July 2022. She was CPD Lead and Research Lead at her school. She now works as a Consultant Trainer for Thinking Reading.

Hélène strongly believes that much is gained from adopting an evidence-informed approach to Teaching and Learning, and school improvement more generally; our children are entitled to have teachers and school leaders who are keen to bridge the gap between research and practice in supporting them to achieve their potential.

Hélène is interested in promoting cross-institution collaboration and supporting practitioners as part of their professional development. She remains in awe of the generosity of colleagues to share their practice and their willingness to learn from one another – and she is keen to do as much as possible to facilitate that.
